July
13th-July 21st, 2006- The
Jamieson tragedy.
Scott Jamieson was at home when Glenn and
Shirley noticed his speech was off.
He couldn't complete his sentences.
Also, Scott was on the computer at the time talking to Marilee, a
lifelong friend from Waukesha, WI. They talked him in to going to the
hospital (3 years before, he had a small stroke.) His brother Rick took
him to South Lake hospital in Clermont which was close.
Jamieson Journal 4
They found he had a small stroke again, and the
gave him blood thinners.
After a couple days in South Lake, they put him
in ICU because his symptoms were getting no better, though the hospital
did not have the technology to do anything else for him. We poked and
prodded the doctors and nurses to get him to Orlando Regional Medical
Center (ORMC). They were having troubles finding a Neurosurgeon and a
hospital bed. Disgusted with the care Scott had been given, we
bullied the hospital to make quick action, an hour later, 1am Monday
morning, Scott was helicoptered to ORMC.
July 17th was Scott's first day
at ORMC. We was still quite awake, though he had horrible head cramps
and the hospital sedated him heavily. Scott's daughter Nicole was
supposed to be here to see him August 3rd, because of the circumstances,
she arrived between the 18th and the 19th to see her father.

July 19th was the last time Scott was
able to speak. He told me his head hurt. He had also told Todd and Misty
that he wanted my brain. Scott and I thought a lot of each other, I will
take that compliment over anything I could ever receive again. Marilee
was by his side the entire time, while Scott was speaking, it was
important to him that we had all met her, little did he know the bond
that would be created by this tragedy. His daughters; Leigh, Samantha
and Nicole were very strong. At almost his last opportunity, he saw his
3 daughters together for the first time and was able to tell them he
loved them.

July
21st-July 22nd (Continued)
Jamieson Journal 4
We knew at this point that his strokes were
continuing to get worse. Because of South Lake Hospital giving him blood
thinners, ORMC could not do anything to repair him. The cause for the
strokes, to this day are unknown. The blood in his brain left him
helpless to the pain and sedation. By the 21st, he could no longer talk.
We would communicate to Scott by touching his hands and feet. He would
tap his feet and move his hands to communicate back.
Jamieson Journal 4
From the time Scott was at ORMC, my wife and I
stayed in the waiting room. Marilee was their during that time along
with Scott's daughter Leigh and her husband Dale and Todd and Misty. We
took this role to help the rest of the family, and to not leave Scott
alone for one minute. The rest of the family visited constantly and took
care of all the other things that needed to be done.
We were allowed to go see him in his room from
10am to 6pm, then again, 8pm to 9pm, these were the ICU rules. We would
call from the waiting room phone every 2 hours to get his status. At one
point, Todd and I went in the room with a guitar and played the songs
Scott had written years before along with songs we thought he'd like. He
tapped his foot to the beat the entire time.

The morning of July 22nd, several of us were
told that Scott 24-48 hours to live. This is when we called everyone to
tell them that not even a miracle could save him. "This is a hard
pill to swallow", I must have said a hundred times. This was a
unique situation in where everyone had a special bond with this special
person. Scott, somehow, had developed such could relationships, we all
knew Scott in our own special ways. To explain my relationship with
Scott would only do it injustice. He was more than just a brother to me,
and I know many people felt this way.
