August 17th, 2006- As
dad went to take is niece to school,
mom made an attempt to use the
bathroom on her own.
She was extremely weak, and
in attempt to open the bathroom door,
she lost balance and fell; landing on her chest, and
face. Dad found her face first on the ground when he walked back
in.
Barry came by and they called the ambulance
to take her to Health Central hospital. She went kicking, she was not a
fan of the hospital under any circumstances.
She found 2-3 broken ribs along with a colon
infection....amongst her previous issues.

August
18th-20th, 2006 Mom was getting a little dementia in the
hospital, seeing spiders and ants where there were none. Within this
time, Misty, Todd's fiancé, would stay with her at night to make sure
she was not alone, and so dad could keep himself healthy.

On the 19th, we found out her infection was spreading through her
intestines and stomach. Mom was in extreme pain and discomfort, we were
fighting trying to give her enough pain medication to make her
comfortable, but not too much that would slow her blood pressure.
The put her in ICU at this point. Shortly after, they put her in
CCU because they were having a hard time getting blood from her.
Late that night they had chosen to put her on a breathing tube
because she was having problems on her own. She was still very aware and
knowing what was happening. She fought the tube with everything she had,
we all know she this was something she did not want. Though, dad had no
choice, he did everything he could.
We stayed with her through that
night not leaving her alone. Dad went home that night to try to get a
couple hours of rest and to make sure he was prepared for more hours.
During this time we were told to try to let her relax. The family that
was there were resting in the waiting room, I went down to the cafeteria
with some others.

After about a half an hour of being away from the 5th
floor where my mom was, it dawned on me that she could still be awake
even through sedation. I ran up cause my bad feelings were strong. I
peaked in her room, so I wouldn't wake her. But I immediately noticed
she was not sleeping, she kept shooting her eyes open, almost in terror.
I talked to her and let her know she's fighting good, and that we were
always there. Though I somewhat panicked not knowing what she was trying
to tell me. I didn't understand her communication with her eyes.
I ran
to get John and Todd to go in there to try to comfort her. They
understood she was wanting the pain to go away, because of the tube down
her throat, they strapped her arms down, this drove her crazy. She
struggled to break free until she couldn't. At this point we didn't
leave her side again. We called dad, he immediately came to ease her.
She looked at him with everlasting love, he had always been her rock.
Mom kept shaking her head, trying to tell us that it had become too much
for her, and that she had to give up. In our ways we told her it would
be ok, she can go see Scott.
