Humphreys around 1845.
Together they had 5
children; Anne born May 28th, 1845, Catherine Elizabeth 1849, Thomas
1852, Robert Moses March 25th, 1854, and Eliza Foulkes 1858. All were
born in Flintshire, Wales except Eliza whom was born in Hanley,

The 2nd line of the
Moses Foulkes history,
Robert
Moses Foulkes
was born in Mostyn, Flintshire, Wales
on
March 24th, 1854,
son
and 4th child of Moses and Sarah Humphreys Foulkes.
Robert married Mary
Ann Ramsell March 5th, 1877
in Farnworth, Lancaster, England. He is found on 21
Wellington St. in Farnworth in 1881. Robert was a coal miner in England. In
1884, him and his wife came to America (Iowa).
The Foulkes moved to Iowa because it was a good place for coal miners to
work at that time.
They
had 6 children together, 3 born in England and 3 born in Iowa. Sarah Ann 1879,
Thomas E. 1883, Eliza J. 1884 all born in England; and John Richard 1890,
William 1892, and Golda May Foulkes 1894 all born in IA.
Eventually,
with the exception of their eldest daughter Sarah Ann, the Foulkes went to Los
Angeles, California. Robert Moses Foulkes passed away September 20th, 1936 in
Los Angeles.
Mary
Ann Ramsell was born in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, daughter of William
Ramsell and Ann?. Mary Ann passed away in Los Angeles May 28th, 1946.
Sarah Ann Foulkes,
daughter of Robert Moses and Mary Ann Ramsell Foulkes, she was born in Farnworth,
England on August 15th, 1879. Sarah is the 3rd line in the Moses Foulkes
History. Her father had been born in Wales and was a coal
miner. Mary Ann was born in England. Conditions in England were very difficult
and the family had a great desire to come to America. Robert came first and
saved his money so he could return to England to bring his family to America.
Sarah was 6 years of age when she arrived here. Because Robert was a coal miner,
he also settled in the coal mining area of Iowa, and it was there that Sarah met
her husband Alfred Lapp.
Alfred and Sarah
had 10 children. Their first child, Pearl, died in infancy. Life certainly could
not have been easy for this family. Alfred worked as a miner, and also spent
some time as a baker. As soon as the boys were old enough to get a job, they
were encouraged to do so. Some of them worked in the coal mines.
They eventually
all moved to Wisconsin, settling in Waukesha. Sarah had a bad heart and suffered
from dropsy. She passed away on October 8th, 1937 at the age of 58. Alfred lived
with various members of his family until his death at the age of 91, on November
15th, 1964. They are both buried in Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, WI. You
can still find some of their descendants there today. This concludes Moses
Foulkes History.
